Deputy Director, HMRC Chief AI Office

Helping shape how the UK's tax authority adopts AI responsibly. I'm helping with organisation design, assurance processes definition, and delivery of select projects.

On the side

Non-executive director and advisory roles

Board work, including with Traveline (once a transport geek always a transport geek), and with Goldsmiths' University Department of Computing.

Coaching

Currently training to qualify as a leadership coach.

Still sending my newsletter about data (since 2012). Currently testing some redesigns, and thinking of investing more energy in finding sponsors and creating more of a community around it.

I've got pretty bad at reading since the pandemic, and still trying to recover my mojo. Currently trying to finish Elsa Morante's "L'isola di Arturo".

Occasional trips to Italy and conferences around Europe. Planning a long trip to Sri Lanka in 2027.

Health

Generally fit, but with a few highs and lows. I've been suffering from a recurring fistula since 2023, and awaiting the third round of surgery to fix or manage it. I keep working out twice a week, hitting the allotment once a week, and I've neglected climbing for a while but my buddies are doing their best to get me back into it this summer.
